Key Points
Background
Estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer is a highly invasive disease that can lead to the risk of mortality and serious health consequences. Aromatase inhibitors are a class of drugs that work by inhibiting the aromatase enzyme, which plays a critical role in the conversion of the estrogen into its active form. By blocking the action of the aromatase enzyme, estrogens increase the levels of estrogen in the body and stimulate the growth of breast cancer cells.
Arimidex is a selective aromatase inhibitor (SARI) used for post-cycle therapy (PCT) in women with anastrozole-induced estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer. Arimidex is approved for post-cycle therapy (PCT) in PEs and is used in combination with other medications such as tamoxifen (Nolvadex®) or letrozole (Femara®) in post-menopausal women, to control estrogen-related side effects. It is also used to reduce the risk of developing breast cancer in post-menopausal women with anastrozole-induced estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer.
Use
Arimidex is primarily used in post-cycle therapy (PCT) in patients with anastrozole-induced estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer. This drug is used post-cycle in post-menopausal women, and it works in post-hoc analysis to confirm its safety and efficacy for post-cycle therapy. It is also used to reduce the risk of breast cancer in post-menopausal women with anastrozole-induced estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer and in post-menopausal women with other risk factors. Arimidex is also used to reduce the risk of developing breast cancer in post-menopausal women with anastrozole-induced estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer.
Arimidex is not approved for use as adjuvant therapy in PEs because it is used in combination with other drugs to control estrogen-related side effects. It is also used to reduce the risk of developing breast cancer in post-menopausal women with anastrozole-induced estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer and in post-menopausal women with other risk factors. It is used in combination with tamoxifen (Nolvadex®) or letrozole (Femara®) in post-menopausal women to control estrogen-related side effects.
Dosage
Arimidex is a prescription drug used in the treatment of post-cycle therapy (PCT) in PEs and is used post-hoc analysis for the prevention of breast cancer in menopausal women. Arimidex is available in three different dosages: 5mg, 10mg, and 20mg. The following dosage is recommended for the management of anastrozole-induced estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer: 0.5-1 mg/day in men, and 5-10 mg/day in women.
Arimidex is available as a liquid suspension (liquid) in a dosage strength of 20 mg. It is available in the following forms: tablets (liquid), capsules (liquid), suspension (powder), and powder (liquid).
Clinical Studies
Arimidex has been used to treat the treatment of anastrozole-induced estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer in many clinical studies. In these clinical studies, the drug was well tolerated with minimal adverse events. In these clinical studies, the dose of the drug was increased from 0.5 mg/day in men to 2.5 mg/day in women. The dosage of the drug was adjusted in these clinical studies to the minimum required dose of 0.5 mg/day in men and 0.5 mg/day in women.
Arimidex is also approved in the treatment of breast cancer in women who are post-menopausal and with other risk factors such as a family history of breast cancer.
Nolvadex (tamoxifen) is an anti-estrogen drug used for the treatment of breast cancer in women who are experiencing hot flashes associated with menopause. It works by blocking the effects of estrogen on the breast cells lining the vagina and uterus, thus blocking the growth of the cancer cells.
Nolvadex should be taken orally with or without food. Take with water. Take at the same time each day, and avoid taking within 4 to 5 days before the medication is started. Taking more than one medication at the same time can increase the risk of side effects.
Before taking Nolvadex, tell your doctor about any of the following: your current hormone levels, any known drug interactions, and any questions about your use of any of the following. These medicines may raise your prolactin levels. Some of the symptoms of breast cancer can be treated by using Nolvadex. Your doctor will discuss with you the best course of treatment for your condition.
Inform your doctor about all the medicines you use, as well as any allergies. Nolvadex may be taken with other medications to reduce your risk of side effects.
Nolvadex is contraindicated in women who are pregnant or who may become pregnant. This medication is contraindicated in children and in women with liver disease. Women with bone disease should not take Nolvadex.
Side effects of Nolvadex are common. If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop taking Nolvadex and call your doctor:
Headache, nausea, breast pain or tenderness, bleeding from the nipple, painful erection. If any of these effects last or get worse, notify your doctor as soon as possible:
Breast tenderness, swelling in the breasts (especially in the lower abdomen), trouble with passing urine (nausea, diarrhea), dark colored urine.
An overdose of Nolvadex can also cause a severe allergic reaction. If you notice any symptoms of a severe allergic reaction, stop taking Nolvadex and contact your doctor immediately.
If you are planning to have surgery, Nolvadex should not be taken during pregnancy. Women who are planning to become pregnant should not take this medication. Women who are breastfeeding should not take this medication. Women who are receiving blood transfusions or using hormonal contraceptives (medicines used to prevent pregnancy) should not take this medication. If you have breast cancer or are at risk for certain side effects, talk to your doctor before taking Nolvadex. This medication may make you feel less alert, dizzy, or cause a heart attack or stroke. Nolvadex may also make you breast lumps that are too large. You should not breast-feed if you experience these side effects.
The following are some medications that may interact with Nolvadex:
The side effects of Nolvadex are usually mild. However, you may experience:
Breast tenderness, pain in the breasts, breast pain or tenderness. A fever. An erection that lasts longer than 4 hours. You may feel dizzy, faint or have a skin rash, itching, sweating, shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting or dizziness. If any of these side effects persist or get worse, notify your doctor as soon as possible.
A painful or prolonged erection that persists longer than 4 hours. You may also have blood in your urine. If you have bleeding in or around the vagina, you should avoid or limit use of Nolvadex.
Breast lumps or bleeding at the nipples. You may feel lightheaded, confused, faint, or be dizzy. If you notice any of these symptoms, tell your doctor immediately. You may also have breast pain or tenderness.

Its usage is typically prescribed for women with ovulation disorders, such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), or polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS-P), as well as for women with ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), or in conjunction with other medications. Clomid, however, is not a first-line treatment for these conditions.
Clomid works by blocking estrogen receptors in the hypothalamus, which are crucial in regulating the hormone production in the body. By blocking estrogen receptors, Clomid stimulates the production of the hormone luteinizing hormone, which stimulates the ovaries to release eggs.
It is typically prescribed for women who are at a high risk of developing ovarian cancer and menopause symptoms due to an imbalance of hormones in the body. This imbalance can lead to ovulation in women who do not have symptoms, such as irregular periods or amenorrhea.
